ASSESSMENT

The Division of Education has created a model for assessment that allows us to monitor student progress and program effectiveness.  A variety of assessment techniques is applied on an on-going basis to provide an accurate view of each student’s individual achievement.  In addition to standardized and traditional assessment, student progress and strengths are assessed using authentic means such as observation, practical application, and reflection.

National, State, and University standards have guided the development of the Division of Education Assessment Model.  These include:

  1. Interstate New Teacher Assessment & Support Consortium (INTASC) principles used by the Indiana Division of Professional Standards (DPS)

  2. Indiana University East Learning Objectives

  3. Division of Education Conceptual Framework

Testing -- State requirements for licensing may change at any time.  Since the Division of Education has chosen to encorporate state licensing requirements into our assessment model, students will have to meet state requirements regardless of date of entry into the program.

Praxis I (PPST) -- passing scores required for Admission to Teacher Education and licensing by the state of Indiana

Praxis II (Specialty Exams) - required exam(s) in areas of licensure must be passed prior to graduation
