Environmental Studies
The Natural Science and Mathematics Division offers an interdisciplinary minor program in Environmental Studies. The program is coordinated principally through the Biology Department.
The purpose of the program is to provide courses that complement other programs while enhancing the student's understanding of components of the environment and the interaction of people with them. A minor in environmental studies will round out a student's academic preparation and experience in many different academic areas.
The minor in Environmental Studies is open to all students in all academic programs accommodating a minor. There are no prerequisites for the minor itself, although some required courses may have prerequisites.
The Biology Department offers three core courses in the field of environmental studies: Environment and Life (BIOL L108), Introduction to Environmental Science (BIOL L333) and Ecological Principles (BIOL L201). Students complete the eighteen (18) credit hour requirement for the minor by taking additional courses chosen from the fields of geology, chemistry, economics, political science and speech. A course in statistics or calculus is also recommended.
