Chemistry

The Chemistry Department offers courses for students pursuing degrees or instruction in professional programs such as biology, medicine, engineering, dentistry, optometry, chemistry and pharmacy. Students can also take courses in preparation for degrees in science or mathematics and related employment in areas such as biotechnology, informatics, natural resources management, public health, quality control, environmental assessment, urban planning, and municipal water treatment.

Courses are offered within the Chemistry Department in principles of chemistry, organic biochemistry, experimental and environmental chemistry, biological chemistry and nutrition. Also available periodically are courses in special topics in chemistry, such as protein purification and chemical technology.

Students are also encouraged to apply their knowledge of chemistry in areas outside the classroom. Opportunities exist to explore topics beyond the normal chemistry curriculum through periodically offered directed individual study.

The Chemistry Department at Indiana University East offers courses supporting baccalaureate (4 year) degrees in Biology (BS) and in Natural Science and Mathematics (BA), with several possible majors. The Chemistry Department also supports the School of Natural Science and Mathematics certificate in Laboratory Science which may be completed alone or in conjunction with any degree program.
