Leading in Difficult Times - Coaching, Conflict and Change
IN CHALLENGING TIMES, individuals and organizations have to deal with a myriad of technological and human resource challenges. A three-day leadership capacity-building series is being offered by the Indiana University East School of Business and Economics on May 20, June 3 and June 17.
The series is designed for individuals in the region who have responsibility for managing or infl uencing others and/or are involved in the introduction of change in their environments. Individuals must be committed to attending all three sessions (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and supported by their respective organizations. The series is limited to 30 participants.
The School of Business & Economics has agreed to underwrite the cost of registration ($750) for one person to attend from each participating organization.
The Facilitators
Dr. David W. Frantz currently serves as the Dean of the School of Business
and Economics and Associate Professor of Management at Indiana University
East. Prior to joining IU East, Dr. Frantz was an Assistant and Associate
Professor of Management for the Purdue University College of Technology in
Richmond from 1994-2004. Dr. Frantz also served as a health care human
resource executive from 1984-1994, and has conducted numerous
management and leadership training sessions.
Dr. Fredricka Joyner is a full-time faculty member of the Indiana University MBA Columbus program. She is the lead faculty member of the integrative leadership development curriculum thread. Dr. Joyner attained her Ph.D. in Community Development from Union Institute and her M.A. in Organization Management from Antioch University. She maintains an active consulting practice in organization and community development.
Overview of the Sessions
Each session will have both a conceptual component and leadership skill development component.
Coaching
- Understanding the coaching role that managers and leaders play
- Developing practical skills in both Facilitative and Directive Coaching behaviors
- Applying coaching skills to 360 situations
Conflict
- Understanding the sources of conflict related to performance management and change management
- Identifying different conflict managing styles and approaches
- Developing practical behaviors for dealing with emotionality in conflict situations
Change
- Understanding the work of adaptive management required in today's environment
- Dealing with the technical and human aspects of adaptive management
- Learning to apply adaptive management techniques to personal and work-related situations
