POSITION DESCRIPTION


INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST


 


Position: Visiting Lecturer in Writing with Possibility of Renewal


 


Starting Date: January, 2009


 


Reports To: Writing Program Director


 


Qualifications: Minimum qualifications: M.A. in English with experience teaching college-level


writing.  Graduate level coursework in rhetoric and composition preferred.


 


Duties


Teaching: Teach first-year writing courses.  The successful candidate will teach first-year writing courses as departmental needs dictate.  These courses include Principles of Composition, Elementary Composition I and II, which cover expository and research writing, and technical writing.  The teaching load is 4 courses per semester.


 


            Professional Development: Pursue activities that support and strengthen


teaching.


 


Service: Attend English Department and Writing Program meetings; service focus within Department and Writing Program.


 


The English Faculty:  The English faculty currently has six tenure-track faculty and three full time writing lecturers: two specialists in British Literature, one specialist in British and Commonwealth, a fiction writer, a poet, a creative non-fiction specialist, a composition/rhetoric specialist serving as writing program director, and specialists in writing.  The program also employs part-time instructors to teach for the writing program.  The English faculty are housed within the Department of English.


 


The School: Indiana University East, located in Richmond, Indiana, with approximately 35,000 residents, is within an easy commute of Indianapolis, Dayton, and Cincinnati.  IU East is a commuter campus that offers bachelor degrees in English as well as other subjects.  It enjoys the resources offered by the Indiana University system. 


 


Salary: Commensurate with experience.
