Database Access Problems

How to access the Databases from Off-Campus computers

If you are off-campus, these are the steps necessary to access our databases:

  1. Go to http://www.iue.edu/library/
  2. Click on Articles in the left navigation bar
  3. Locate the database you wish to view and click on it
  4. Provide your IU username and password when prompted

Note: If you are accessing the Medweb databases, you will be asked for your username and passphrase a second time to use these resources.

Setting up a VPN connection

If you are still having trouble logging into the Campus Library databases, you may try setting up a VPN connection (Virtual Private Network connection), which will make your computer act like it is on campus. Please use the IU Knowledge Base resources:

Check your Cookies Settings

If you have problems logging into our databases you may have a "cookie" problem. Generally when "cookies" are a part of the error message it could mean that you have the security settings too high in your Internet browser. Cookies are affected by the browser settings for Privacy and/or Security options. There is an article in the IU Knowledge Base that discusses cookies and will help you change your browser settings.

Problems with IUCAT

If IUCAT is not working correctly from on campus or from home (off-campus) please check on the following two points of information and send them in the form below.

  1. Identify the IP address of the machine. You can get this quickly by going to the address bar on your browser and typing in: http://www.whatismyip.com

  2. Identify the Webserver to which you are connected. You can do this by clicking the Back button on you browser to get back to IUCAT, then going back up to the address bar and typing in: http://www.iucat.iu.edu/host.cgi and sending the contents of the first line on the page you see.
Still Having Problems?

If your problems persist, please contact the database librarian, Sue McFadden by filling out this form below. If the form does not work, you can email her directly.
