NC Grade Policy vs Other Incomplete
The "Other Incomplete" policy is where a student who receives an "Incomplete" may take the class over without registering and paying for the course.
The "NC Grade" policy is where a student who receives an "NC" which is equivalent to an "Incomplete" must register and pay for the course again.
The members decided to incorporate the "NC Grade" policy because they felt that students should register and pay for the course again. It would eliminate the problem of having too may student sin a class because some have come in under the "Other Incomplete" policy. Also, if a student must pay twice for the same course it should give them a stronger incentive to complete the course. This should be for the developmental courses only in English and Mathematics. It was stated that the English Department is also in agreement with the "NC Grade" policy.

NC Policy
A memo was distributed to the members stating that the School would like to propose elimination of the unusual use of "I" (Incomplete) and the substitution of "NC" (change enrollment status to audit) for students in M007 and M014 who fail to meet the requirements for the grade of "S", yet have met minimum standards in attendance and effort. This proposal would be consistent with procedures on other campuses of Indiana University.

NC Policy
Ed Gallo called other schools to see how they grade students concerning an Incomplete. Bloomington uses the NC for an 80%. An Incomplete must be made up. They have a slightly higher passing standard comparing their 80% to our 60%. Kokomo does not use NC and uses the I as a normal Incomplete. IUPUI has no NC and no I, and no special provisions.
Our students have certain requirements they must meet to get an Incomplete. Anyone getting less than 60% should take the course over. The student must do something to change the I within a year or it goes on their record as an F. With an NC the student doesn't have to do anything. They could ask to take the Skills Review Test over to try and test out instead of taking the course over.
The terms "Incomplete" and "Other Incomplete" are causing some misunderstanding among the students. A suggestion was made to change the "Other Incomplete" to another name such as DCI. This would eliminate the students comparing the Incomplete to the Other Incomplete.
The AAA committee asks that both the English and Mathematics Departments use the same system. The English Department doesn't seem to feel that they have a problem using both Incomplete methods. It was proposed and passed to put the NC Policy on hold until next year with the hope that the English Department will realize the merits of the NC.

FX Policy
A question on the FX Policy was raised concerning a student who took M014 and received an FX. He then attended another University and passed the M118 course. He has asked for the FX to be removed from his record for the M014 course. The members felt that this M118 course was not equivalent to the M014. He also asked if he could get course credit by examination. It is a School policy that "no credit by examination can be used for developmental courses". (And it was also agreed that proficiency tests can be used in 100 level courses to FX). It was felt that he should continue to take the M014 course which he is already enrolled in. It was moved that the School amend the FX Policy to state that:
- Proficiency exams can be used in 100 level or above courses for FX.
- A student may exercise the FX Option for no more than three courses, totaling no more than 10 credits.
- A student may use the FX option only once for a given course.

Grade Policy
There are no set regulations concerning +'s and -'s given for a grade. The instructor may decide the cut off point but should let the students know what this preference is at the beginning of the semester. Purdue students are graded on A, B, C, and D's.
