Academic Organizations

Association of Nursing Students
Serves those individuals interested in pursuing a career in a nursing profession. Advisor: Dr. Sherry Rankin, 973-8244.
Criminal Justice Club
Created with the express purposes of increasing the awareness of the student body in the institutions of Criminal Justice, Political, Public and Environmental Affairs. Advisors: Bob Ramsey, 973-8327, Victoria Beck, 973-8597.
Degenerate State (Math Club)
The intent of the Math Club, named degenerate state (term to describe the total energy of a system of an equation with independent solutions) is to provide an environment for students and faculty to discuss mathematics. The club meets weekly to have fun working problems, and using logic to reason equations. The group takes trips to museums and institutions , and provides a medium for the mathematical community at IU East to collaborate with the lager mathematical community of Indiana and Western Ohio. Honors Club
Promotes cultural well-roundedness and citizenship within the Honors community at IUE; to facilitate fellowship among honors program members through extra curricular opportunities athat are intellecutally and culturally engaging. Advisor: Ange Cooksey, 973-8438.
Humanities Club
Convenes students of any major who have an interest in the arts for monthly on-campus meetings and special events like poetry readings and attending local theaters and symphonic concerts. Future plans include visiting museums and jazz clubs. Advisor: Frances Peacock, 973-8523.
Political Science Club
- created to provide a forum for students who share an interest in political issues for social and professional interaction, promote political awareness on campus, and explore political issues that can affect positive change on the campus, community, state, nation and world. Advisor: Paul Kriese, 973-8374.
Psychology Club
- provides opportunities for members to be exposed to the latest scientific knowledge of psychology, meet other students involved in the study of psychology, make known research opportunities and share information about career development in psychology. Advisor: Kathleen Felton, 973-8530.
Sociology Club
- provides a forum in which members may participate in informative, academic exchange through discussion of interests and experiences in a sociological context. Advisor: Denise Bullock, 973-8618.
Science Club
- provides opportunities for interested and capable men and women in joining with others who share a common interest in the field of science for social and professional interaction. Organization promotes awareness of science education on campus and in the community and explores technological issues and changes in science on state, national and global levels. Advisor: Neil Sabine, 973-8389.
Student Social Work Association
- serves students in the fields of Human Services and Social Work. Active membership promotes both the needs and requirements of Social Work majors, participation in the evaluation of policies and programs, when appropriate, and fosters referral and application of its members. Advisor: Shiela Armstead, 973-8534.
Writer’s Club
- provides a format in which writers in all areas will be able to gain feedback and insight, be able to share their work with others, and attend creative functions to further expand their minds. In addition, it is also the purpose of the Writer’s Club to edit and publish the annual Indiana University East Journal of Student Writing. Advisor: Beth Slattery, 973-8549.

Campus Life Sponsored Groups

Student Events Team
- selects, develops and organizes educational, recreational and social programming for the students of IU East and Purdue University Programs. Advisor: Matt Marshall, 973-8366.
Student LEADERS Program
- represents the student body on various campus committees, including the IU Board of Trustees. These representatives serve as advocates and resources for students and provide an avenue of communication between the students and the faculty/administrators on the IU East campus. Advisor: Matt Marshall, 973-8366.

Fellowship and Spiritual Group

    Campus Christian Fellowship
    serves Christ and the campus by: Lifting up Christ as the source of eternal life. (John 14:6). Encouraging campus members to mature in their personal relationship with Christ. (COL 1:10-12). Supporting the campus community in prayer. (EPH 6:18). Advisor: Jerome Mahaffey, 973-8324.
    Pagan Alliance with Nature (P.A.N.)
    provides a forum which will enhance the self-esteem, self-awareness and overall well-being of the Pagan student population of IU East, as well as to educate the IU East community about the needs and concerns of people with varying beliefs. The club is both social and educational, while attempting to honor all beliefs, however focusing on those beliefs outside the mainstream. Advisor: TJ Rivard, 973-8243.

    Honoraries

    Alpha Phi Sigma-
    Recognizes academic excellence demonstrated by students of Criminal Justice and promotes service, critical thinking, rigourous scholarship and elevates the ethical standards of the Criminal Justice profession. Advisors: Bob Ramsey, 973-8327, Victoria Beck 973-8597.
    Chi Alpha Epsilon
    recognizes the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges through nontraditional criteria. Its purposes are to promote continued high academic standards, to foster increased communication among its members and to honor academic excellence achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental programs. Programs sponsored by the society encourage other students toward this accomplishment. Advisor: Cheryl Stafford, 973-8319.
    Delta Mu Delta
    A national honor society in the field of Business Administration that promotes higher scholarship in training for business and recognizes and rewards business administration students who have distinguished themselves scholastically. Advisor: David Frantz, 973-8337.
    Psi Chi
    encourages, stimulates and maintains excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology. Advisor: Susan Shapiro, 973-8284.

    Special Interest Groups

    Amtgard
    a worldwide organization of people who share an interest in medieval culture and pagentry, with an emphasis on live action role play (LARP) and mock combat. Members research, design and create authentic costumes and weaponry. Advisor: Brandon Mcfadden, 973-8296.
    Danielson Center Student Council (New Castle)
    increases the interaction between students and faculty, enhances the college and overall student experience and encourages activities which enhance and strengthen the relationship between the Danielson Center and the surrounding communities. Advisor: Crystal Lewellen, 765-521-9023
    Environmental Club
    to interest men and women in joining with others who share a common intersest in environmental issues and to promote awareness of environmental issues on campus, in the community and nationwide. Advisor: Peggy Branstrator,973-8357.
    Indiana University East United Nations Model (IUEUNM)
    members assume the roles of ambassadors to the United Nations and debate current issues on the UN’s agenda. Through diplomacy and negotiation, members will seek ways to deal with complex global issues such as conflict resolution, AIDS, refugees, the environment, and economic development.     Multicultural Affairs Organization
    raises the campus’ awareness of multicultural based issues, increases minority involvement and retention at IU East and increases minority participation in activities. Advisor: Tim Williams, 973-8320.
    National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI)
    dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by these diseases. Advisor: Joan LaFuze, 973-8246
    Plastic Organization Art Club
    to gather students and alumni who have participated in Indiana University East's art classes and events to further enhance their creative education. Advisor: Melissa Modesitt, 765-521-9012.
    Rainbow Alliance
    provides a forum which enhances the self-esteem, self-awareness, and overall well-being of gay, lesbian, and bisexual student population of IU East, as well as educating the campus community about the needs and concerns of people with varying sexual orientations. Advisor: Lanette Young, 973-8212.
    Student Alumni Association
    promotes the interests of and understanding between Indiana University students of yesterday, today and tomorrow; provides programs and services for students and alumni in joint efforts with the IU East Office of Alumni Relations; assists the Office of Admissions with new student orientations on and off-campus; strengthens and adds to the educational experience of current students who will become effective alumni leaders.     Students Against War (S.A.W.)
    provides a support system to aid any and all students in becomin as actively involved in any anti-war undertaking as that individual student desires; provides and offers information regarding national and internationsl anti-war efforts; organizes and presents inforamtional events regarding anti-war beliefs and convictions to the general student body and community.     21st Century Scholars Club
    helps mentor 21st Century Scholars who are current freshmen and sophomore students at IU East as well as outreach to junior and senior highs school students to help them prepare for and succeed witht eh entrance to college and beyond. Advisor: Tim Williams, 973-8320.
    Women's Studies Organization
    to provide social, cultural, recrational and educational opportunities for students and the community concerning women's issues. Advisor: Joan Passet, 973-8521.

    Publications

    Pioneer Press
    (Student Newspaper) - informs the student body of events and issues that may have some impact upon students’ affairs. Serves as an information resource on topics pertaining to the academic establishment and serves as an arena for the expression of viewpoints. Advisor: Anthony Naaeke, 973-8425.

    Cheerleading
    supports and backs our men’s and women’s athletic teams by encouraging the campus community to attend sporting events and to cheer for the teams during games. Tryouts are held in October.     Golf Club
