Jumpstart (Fall and Spring)
Free to all students, the JUMPSTART program provides a head start for college. Students can gain self-confidence, meet other students, and learn what services are available on campus.
Tutorial Services offers Math and Reading/Writing JUMPSTART workshops the week before classes begin. Workshops review basic writing and math skills, reading comprehension strategies, and study skills.
Math Jumpstart Students
- Learn how to study math, how to take notes in math class, and how to prepare for exams
- Review areas that often cause problems for math students (fractions, percents, decimals, etc.)
- Learn how to use the computer math programs
- Learn how to translate algebraic expressions into English
Reading/Writing Jumpstart Students
- Learn proofreading techniques to find writing errors
- Learn strategies to help their concentration, comprehension, and retention
- Write sample paragraphs and learn how to revise and edit writing assignments
