Tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders
Qualifications include the following:
- A GPA of 3.0 in any course for which the student is providing assistance
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or more
- Professor recommendation
- Excellent communication skills
Math Tutor

SUMMARY
Provide tutorial assistance through the Math Lab during scheduled hours. Develop handouts and worksheets as needed. Develop and conduct review sessions, workshops, and JUMPSTART sessions as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend a training workshop for math tutors prior to the beginning of the semester.
- Review course material in preparation for student questions.
- Inform students in various math courses of the purpose and benefits of the Math Lab during class visitations at the beginning of the semester.
- Distribute schedules to all students in the course and invite students to participate in Math Lab services.
- Provide tutorial assistance for students in individual and group sessions.
- Inform students of alternative Math Lab materials and services (computer-assisted instruction programs, videos, practice quizzes and exams, etc.).
- Develop handouts and worksheets as needed.
- Develop and conduct review sessions, workshops, and JUMPSTART sessions as needed.
- Collect attendance data for every student contact and write a progress report for each student contact.
- Participate in periodic tutor meetings with the director of Tutorial Services and other math tutors during the semester.
- Assist in collecting and compiling end-of-semester data.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work of the Math Lab as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; currently an upper-level IU East student or a college graduate; college GPA of 3.0 or above; recommendation by college professor; excellent oral and written communication skills and leadership skills.
Writing Tutor

- Review course material in preparation for student questions.
- Inform students in various composition courses of the purpose and benefits of the Writing Lab during class visitations at the beginning of the semester.
- Distribute schedules to all the students in the course and invite students to participate in Writing Lab services.
- Provide tutorial assistance for students in individual and group sessions.
- Assist students using computers for word processing.
- Assist students with MLA and APA documentation.
- Inform students of alternative Writing Lab materials and services (computer-assisted instruction programs, worksheets, handouts, etc.).
- Develop handouts and worksheets as needed.
- Assist with JUMPSTART sessions as needed.
- Collect attendance data for every student contact and write a progress report for each student contact.
- Participate in periodic tutor meetings with the Director of Tutorial Services and other writing tutors during the semester.
- Assist in collecting and compiling end-of-semester data.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work in the Writing Lab as required.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader

SUMMARY
Attend class lectures, take notes, and read all assigned material for selected courses. Conduct three to five out-of-class sessions per week and/or provide office hours. Develop session handouts, practice quizzes, and practice exams as deemed necessary. Collect student data as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend all required training sessions/workshops prior to beginning semester assignment.
- Inform the students in the course of the purpose and benefits of Supplemental Instruction (SI) assistance; administer an interest survey.
- Using student surveys, determine out-of-class time sessions. Distribute schedules to all students in the course and invite students to attend sessions.
- Attend all class lectures for the designated course, take notes during the lectures, and read all assigned material.
- Prepare a lesson plan for each Supplemental Instruction (SI) session.
- Prepare session handouts, practice quizzes, and practice exams as deemed necessary.
- Conduct three to five study sessions per week and/or provide office hours as scheduled. Provide extended sessions and/or additional sessions prior to scheduled exams.
- Collect attendance data for every session, including names, course title, date, and time.
- Meet weekly with course instructor to discuss student/faculty concerns, course objectives, and effectiveness of the student-to-student assistance program.
- Participate in periodic meetings and training sessions with supervisors, other undergraduate assistants, and faculty mentors during the semester; participate in debriefing sessions after observations by supervisors.
- Administer end-of-semester evaluations to all students in course.
- Assist supervisors in preparing end-of-semester reports and other reports as requested.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
