Writing Lab
All IU East students enrolled in writing classes or classes that require writing are encouraged to use the Writing Lab located in Springwood Hall 202B. All Writing Lab services are free to students and are designed to help them succeed academically and gain confidence in writing.
Students may come to the Writing Lab as often as they like. Tutors are available at all scheduled times to help students:
- Brainstorm for paper ideas
- Select an idea from several choices
- Discuss course readings
- Work on a rough draft
- Work on mechanics (comma splices, etc.)
- Revise a draft for a better grade

The Writing Lab is open the following hours:
- Monday thru Thursday - 8:30 am - 7:30 pm
- Friday - 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Writing Lab Features
The Writing Lab uses many tools to help students learn, including:
Online Tutoring
Using our online tutoring service, students can submit questions or papers 24/7 (excluding holidays). Tutors will respond within 24-48 hours or sooner if possible.
Computers
Students may use the computers in the Writing Lab to type papers and make corrections. Tutors are trained to answer basic word processing questions.
Handouts
The Writing Lab contains a variety of handouts about topics such as essay development, punctuation, grammar usage, and documentation styles. Students are welcome to review a handout with a writing tutor and then take the handout home for future reference. In addition, the Writing Lab contains many writing texts, handbooks, and documentation manuals.
